Industrial action on 18 September 2025 in France
Please find below status report no. 1, ‘Industrial action on 18 September 2025’.
I/ Introduction
The national day of action on 18/09 promises to be particularly mobilising. Responding to the call from the inter-union group, several hundred thousand people are expected to take part in the numerous actions planned across the country. To date, more than 300 have been listed.
The CFDT has reportedly requested that leaflets be distributed within companies.
More so than on 10 September, the mobilisation will be twofold, with traditional trade union marches on the one hand and actions continuing the ‘Bloquons tout’ (‘Let’s block everything’) movement on the other.
Large urban areas are likely to see a significant presence of radical elements within or on the fringes of trade union marches.
Public order disturbances could occur, particularly in Toulouse (31), Marseille (13), Montpellier (34), Bordeaux (33), Metz (57), Nancy (54), Rennes (35), Nantes (44), Brest (29), Lyon (69), Grenoble (38), Dijon (21), Strasbourg (67), Besançon (25), Caen (14) and Lille (59).
At the same time, local actions, continuing the ‘Bloquons tout’ (Let’s block everything) movement, are expected to take place, with varying degrees of aggression. These may include occupations of public spaces, roundabouts and shops (large retailers), operations at toll booths, disruption of major roads, and gatherings in front of public buildings and educational establishments.
Finally, acts of sabotage, similar to those perpetrated last week (railway lines, various networks, etc.), cannot be ruled out.
